Nunatsiaq News: Nunavut’s first transitional housing set to open in Iqaluit

Nunavut’s first transitional housing project, run by the Uquutaq Society, is set to open in Iqaluit early next year.

Uquutaq’s application for the $6.5-million project was recently approved by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation under the National Housing Strategy’s Co-Investment Fund.

… The facility is expected to open in March 2020.

Uquutaq also acknowledged the help of other partners in moving the project forward, including Nunavut’s Department of Family Services, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, Employment and Social Development Canada, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, the City of Iqaluit, Nunastar and Northmart.
