QIA extends condolences on passing of former Hudson Bay MLA and QIA Community Director Peter Kattuk
Iqaluit, NU – November 21, 2019 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) extends condolences to the family, friends and community members of former Hudson Bay Member of the Nunavut Legislative Assembly, Peter Kattuk, who passed away this week following a lengthy illness.
“My thoughts are with Peter Kattuk’s family, friends and the community of Sanikiluaq” says QIA President P.J. Akeeagok, “Peter was a dignified leader who served the community of Sanikiluaq for years as an MLA and as a QIA Community Director. He will be remembered for his dedication to protect and preserve the land and waters around his hometown.”
Peter Kattuk was the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Hudson Bay in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut from 1999 to 2008. Prior to becoming an MLA, Kattuk was the mayor of Sanikiluaq. Kattuk also served as a QIA community Director for two terms.
